Collecting Huge Yields On A Double-Digit Rally (EPD, KMP, PAA, LGCY, EVEP, NWE, TGP, DPM, NGLS)As of Thursday’s close a number of high-yielding master limited partnerships (MLPs) had soared higher by double-digits over the past month. Income-oriented investors often look to MLPs for their high yields, but you don’t hear much complaining when the stocks shoot up by 10% or more in a month. The power of compounding cash payments in a bull market are huge, and select components of the MLPs Index are proving that in a big way. Sorting the Index by one-month performance brings a number of lesser-known names to the top of the list. While Enerprise Products Partners (EPD), Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMP), and Plains All American Pipeline (PAA) have all turned in more than 5% gains in the past month, they pale in comparison to many of their high-yielding peers. Perhaps the most impressive MLP over the last month is Legacy Reserves (LGCY). The Texas-based independent oil and natural gas company has shot higher by 14% for the period, and based on its current value, investors are earning a 9% annual yield on cash distributions. Meanwhile, EV Energy Partners (EVEP) has gained 11% for the period with a 9.2% annual yield, and Markwest Energy Partners (NWE) has added 12.5% in equity gains with an 8% yield. Investors are also cashing in on Teekay LNG Partners (TGP), DCP Midstream Partners (DPM), and Targa Resources (NGLS). All three pay out more than 7.2% annual yields, and the stocks have shot up by more than 10% in the month leading to Thursday’s close. The MLPs Index is consistently among tickerspy’s top-10 Indexes by ranked by yield with components dishing out an average 6.5% annually. Is there a way to invest in MLPS through an etf or similar?

Yes, there is an ETN based on the Alerion MLP Index, the ticker symbol is AMJ, it is sponsered by JP Morgan. There is also a closed end fund (KYN)that invests in the sector. This fund uses leverage.
