Residential REITs Boast High Yields, Impressive One-Month Gains (BRE, ESS, AVB, AGNC, AIV, EQR)Overall, it’s been a strong month for the equity markets, but some investors are winning bigger than others by compounding significant cash distributions with healthy equity gains. Among the best places to do that over the last month has been in residential real estate investment trusts (REITs), where components of the Residential REITs Index has outperformed the S&P 500 by 4% over the last month and yield an average 5.7%. As a whole, the Index is adding 0.2% to a 1.3% weekly gain on Friday. The Residential REITs Index is being led higher by BRE Properties (BRE), up 1.0%, Essex Property Trust (ESS), up 0.9%, and Avalonbay Communities (AVB), up 0.8%.
