Picking Tech Earnings Winners and Losers: Micron, Oracle, and Jabil (MU, ORCL, HPQ, IBM, DELL, JBL, CSCO, RIMM)
Three closely watched tech names are reporting earnings this week. What should investors expect from these reports? What are the key storylines to follow and are these stocks likely to trade higher or lower in the wake of their results?
In NextInning.com’s earnings previews, available free to trial subscribers, key storylines are evaluated, analyst expectations are audited, and in depth valuation analyses are provided to develop fair value ranges for dozens of stocks.
Some of the stocks covered include:
Micron Technology (MU) – “Ahead of the earthquake prices for NAND Flash were holding reasonably stable, but DRAM prices were in a gentle downtrend. Since the quake, NAND Flash prices have again stabilized following a sharp spike up. However, they stabilized at higher prices than we were seeing before the earthquake. DRAM prices reversed their trend and have moved up modestly since the earthquake.”
Oracle (ORCL) – “While we can mince the details as to where Oracle is weak in comparison to its primary enterprise ecosystem competitors, which today include Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and IBM (IBM), as well as the emerging ecosystem model we see developing at Dell (DELL), I don’t think that’s the best way to look at Oracle today.”
Jabil Circuit (JBL) – “The price of JBL has been whacked by three events since February 17… In addition to these three wildcards, Jabil’s two largest customers (the only two reported as being 10%+ customers last quarter) are Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIMM), which are both being viewed negatively by Wall Street of late.”
In addition, with the market pulling back, Next Inning’s call in February to thin equity exposure and raise cash is looking prescient.
