One of the earliest online consumer brands, Hotmail, is headed for retirement. Hotmail's owner, Microsoft, introduced a preview of a new Web-based e-mail service called Outlook.com, based on the name of the Microsoft application that millions of professionals use to send e-mails, manage contacts and organize their calendars.
